End of Chinese Ban on Irish Beef
Earlier this year Taoiseach Enda Kenny formally announced the lifting of the Chinese ban on Irish beef. Ireland is to date the only EU member state permitted to export to the United States and China. With China being the world’s largest individual market with a population of 1.35 billion this decision highlights the tremendous food safety standards in Ireland given China’s well known strict standards and cautiousness in providing market access.
Irish Agri-food exports to China last year amounted to almost €620m last year: an outstanding increase of almost two 2½ times the level of exports in 2011 (€254)
